Hello! My name is Ariana (or Ari). I am a birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator, advocate, partner, and graduate student. I have been attending births and supporting families in the Ann Arbor area for over four years. I currently work as birth doula with Ann Arbor Doulas, and teach childbirth education classes as a part of the team at Ypsi-Arbor Childbirth Ed.
After caring for my first client as she labored to bring her baby into the world and seeing the impact that a supportive birth team can have on outcomes, I knew that I had to find a way to keep doing this work. My favorite parts of this job are the birthing people, partners, and families that I get to know as they prepare for and welcome their new little ones. It is such an honor to be a part of each unique journey.
I have had the opportunity to witness births all along the spectrum from scheduled c-sections to planned home births. I am continually struck by the power and resilience of our minds and bodies. There are as many definitions of a positive birth experience as there are birthing people; it is my job to make sure that each person has the information, tools, and support they need to make the next decision, take the next step. It is crucial that families feel listened to and valued all along the way.
When I am not attending births I love knitting, gardening, camping, reading, and spending time with my partner and our two cats. I am also currently studying to earn a master's degree in social work at Eastern Michigan University.
